Also we have the following for those with friends and family interested in
law:

Legal Writing I: Professor Andrew Mendelssohn

The purpose of this course is to teach practicing lawyers, advanced law
students, and other legal professionals to organize and write law office
memoranda and client letters. Students will explore differences in writing
for common law- versus civil law-trained environments, learn the parts of a
legal memorandum, practice the basic "IRAC" technique of legal writing,
practice logical organization in legal writing, and improve sentence and
paragraph structure in their legal writing. The course stresses the logic of
legal writing and development of legal thinking. Students will also review
conventions of written legal English, including, specifically, completing
exercises in topics such as punctuation, using active voice, structuring
sentences, organizing paragraphs, and creating logical flow between
paragraphs.

Professor Andrew Mendelssohn is an experienced California/North Carolina
attorney who has spent many years teaching law to Russian students, both at
Pericles and throughout the country. His class will meet for twelve weeks
on Tuesday evenings (19:00-21:00), beginning on May 11th. The cost of
attendance is 38,000R, and a certificate of completion is awarded to anyone
who successfully finishes the course.

Cyber Law: Professor Patrick Thornton

This course will examine the emerging and growing body of law related to the
Internet. The sources of Internet law are many, from intellectual property,
to tort, to the First Amendment. Given the newness and complexity of this
technology, special attention will be paid to the application of existing
laws and models to cyberspace and how technology is challenging settled
legal understandings. Class discussions will consider, among other issues
and policy discussion, practical approaches to current problems and the
business issues faced by clients. If you are potentially interested in this
topic, you should take the course now because it will likely not be offered
again in the near future.

Professor Patrick Thornton is currently a professor specializing in
intellectual property and information law at Houston Baptist University in
Texas. He is a frequent visiting lecturer at overseas schools (and one of
our most popular professors), and he brings with him over 20 years of
experience in private practice. His class will meet for six weeks on Monday
and Wednesday evenings (19:00-21:30), beginning on May 17th. The cost of
attendance is 38,000R, and a certificate of completion is awarded to anyone
who successfully finishes the course.

Legal English: Professor Andrew Mendelssohn

This course is designed to enhance the speaking and writing abilities of law
students, practicing lawyers, and other legal professionals. The focus of
this course is on Anglo-Saxon legal terminology and principles. However,
there is a heavy concentration on business law topics. You can expect to
cover topics such as Sources of Law, Torts and Crimes, Contract Law,
Commercial Paper, Debtor/Creditor Law, and Corporations. If you wish to
take this course, your English should be upper intermediate, as this course
is also used to help give you the necessary English practice to allow you to
study in advanced level courses.

Professor Andrew Mendelssohn is an experienced California/North Carolina
attorney who has spent many years teaching law to Russian students, both at
Pericles and throughout the country. His class will meet for eleven weeks
on Monday and Wednesday evenings (19:00-21:30), beginning on May 17th. The
cost of attendance is 40,500R, and a certificate of completion is awarded to
anyone who successfully finishes the course.
