Dear AIBEc students,

Through an exchange agreement between AIBEc and Pericles, we can offer up to
3 seats in the International Trade Law and Policy seminar which will be
starting this Thursday. Students should pay AIBEc at the normal AIBEc rate
and will get credit towards AIBEc graduation. The course will be offered at
Pericles, 1st Miusskaya Ul #22-3 (5 minutes from Novoslobodskaya &
Mendeleevskaya Metro stations). The course is 19:00-22:00 every Thursday,
starting this Thursday and going until December 18.

The course will examine import and export regimes and policies, including
most favored nation and national treatment principles, WTO and GATT rules
restraining national trade restrictions, such as tariff and non-tariff
barriers, anti-dumping, countervailing duties and safeguard measures, trade
in intellectual property (TRIPS) and trade related investment measures
(TRIMS). The course will cover the WTO dispute resolution process and will
examine actual trade disputes that are making their way through dispute
resolution channels. To the extent time allows the class will also examine
the process of WTO accession, social and economic issues related to
globalization, and Russia 's future WTO membership. No prior legal knowledge
is required, although having already taken Professor Lissniak's business law
course at AIBEc would be very helpful

The professor is Antonio Parenti, who is currently a Senior Manager at
Severstal and before that was First Secretary at the Delegation of the
European Commission in Moscow where he followed the process of accession of
Russia to the WTO as well as the macroeconomic and energy questions. He has
also worked in the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission.
Mr. Parenti holds a MA in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins
School of Advanced International Studies, Washington D.C. ( USA ), a LL.M in
European Law and a Law Degree both from the University of Bologna ( Italy ).
He regularly lectures and writes on WTO & trade issues and he is a lecturer
of International Trade Law at the University of Bologna.

Students will need to purchase the book: Trebilcock & & Howse "The
Regulation of International Trade", 3rd Edition, Routledge 2005, which is
available at Pericles for the cost of 2000 rubles.

To enroll or to get more information please contact me (Marian Dent,
